Sleepless on Solstice
The celebration of Midsummer's Eve was from ancient times linked to the summer solstice. People believed that mid-summer plants, especially Marigold had miraculous healing powers and they therefore picked them on this night. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southwards again. In later years, witches were also thought to be on their way to meetings with other evil powerful beings, though this is not the case today. Phew!

Damned
"The most thoroughly and relentlessly Damned, banned, excluded, condemned, forbidden, ostracised, ignored, suppressed, repressed, robbed, brutalised and defamed of all Damned Things is the individual human being. The social engineers, statisticians, psychologists, sociologists, market researches, bureaucrats, captains of industry, bankers, governors, commissars, kings and presidents are perpetually forcing the Damned Thing into carefully prepared blueprints and perpetually irritated that the Damned Thing will not fit into the slot assigned to it. The theologians call it a sinner and try to reform it. The governor calls it a criminal and tries to punish it. The psychopherapist calls it a neurotic and tries to cure it. Still, the Damned Thing will not fit into their slots."
